Differences between Crocodiles and Sharks/ Sharks vs. CrocodileThere are quite a few differences between these two species. The debate is now on sharks vs. crocodile. Obviously the two animals have a completely different appearance and move in a totally different way, but there are many more subtle differences between the two. There is not just one type of shark or crocodile. There are Nile crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles and tiger sharks, white sharks and whale sharks for example. Are Crocodiles considered to be Ambush Predators whereas Sharks are Opportunistic Predators?Crocodiles are ambush predators meaning they will aim at a specific target and have the ability to wait for long periods of time, "guarding" their target before they finally attack. This makes crocodiles difficult and dangerous opponents. Sharks, on the other hand, are opportunistic hunters meaning that they will randomly attack if a potential victim (or food as they see it) crosses their path and gets close to them. A shark will suddenly charge at a victim often prompted by the smell of blood and shark attacks by for example the great white shark can be very unpredictable.Do Crocodiles have stronger Jaws compared to Sharks?Even though sharks are famous for their teeth and their jaws have been used as a means to scare people in many a film, it is the crocodile that has the strongest jaws. Biologists have built exact replicas of crocodiles and sharks to test out the strength and resilience of both creatures and are convinced that the crocodile could win a fight on jaw power alone. However the shark does have a better ability to move.Do Crocodiles go to Sea whereas Sharks go Inland? Both saltwater crocodiles and sharks like the great white or the tiger shark live in and around the same waters. This is mainly the case in Australia. Crocodiles do go out to the deeper waters of the sea to explore and to look for prey, however. Sharks have been known to swim inland.Differences in Food Habits between the Shark and the CrocodileThe great white shark is often in the media because of shark attacks but don't forget that both sharks and crocodiles are wonderful animals. They can become dangerous to humans but they won't necessarily want to kill you randomly. Even the biggest crocodile in a crocodile creek with plenty of food will actively look and wait for food and the shark usually attacks upon the smell of blood. Take precautions and never enter the waters where these creatures live without a professional guide.
