Garials Eating HabitsAt young age they feed on flies and other insect. When they grow old they prefer frogs, lizards, fish or other small animals and at times even sheep, goats, horses, etc. They leave no chance to grab any animal which may come wandering in their way.Gharial Crocodle also eat jewelry, stones and even sticks, which helps in digestion process and keeps them in cheerful spirit. How do Gavials multiply?Gavials process of reproduction is same as in other species of Crocodiles. Female is sexually matured at the age of ten. They will initiate the mating process in November, December and January. After mating, it is their time to build the nests and lays eggs, which they do in the dry season of March, April and May. This is the most appropriate season for nesting whereby the rivers shrinks a bit giving them suitable space to build their nests.Females lay 30 to 50 eggs which weigh an average 160 grams. Their incubation period lasts for 90 days and during the time of hatching, hatchlings will make a squeaking voice to alert mothers to help them come out from the eggs.
