Do Crocodiles Make Tame Pets?

The association of Crocodiles and Man is known for a long time. Ancient Egyptians worshiped crocodile-god. Sometimes they hunted crocodiles, and visualize them as a protector and source of pharonic power.

According to Herodotus, in 5th century BC some Egyptians kept crocodiles as pampered pets. Animal should be thoroughly examined before buying as they can carry infections. Their vent should be clean and they also should be checked for mites and other parasites that can get into the folds of skin around the eyes, and within the earflaps and any other infections like yolk salc.

You can buy Caimans and other crocodilian species from several sources. You can even buy crocos from exotic pet stores, from online distributors and reptile magazines. It has off late become a fashion to buy crocs online. You can also buy privately from keepers.. You can also get one from local herpetological society. They keep those crocodiles which are thrown out by their owners.

Cost of Corcodiles

The cost of an individual animal varies depending on the species, size of the animal, and the area in which you live. Animals from private breeders are cheaper than from pet stores. The cost of a dwarf or smooth-fronted caiman will vary, a baby Paleosuchus will cost about US $500. A larger one is around £600. Where to Keep Crocodiles

You should have an appropriate place to keep a crocodilian such as a Caiman. There are several things that need to be taken care while preparing place for Crocodiles. You should have spacious enclosure with both water and land area. The width and length of enclosure should be four times large than the animal's total length. For a pair of crocodiles, minimum land area must be 3 times the largest animal's width and 4 times long. Minimum water area should be 4 times the largest animal's width and five times long, and minimum depth must be 0.3 times animal's width.
